More reviews

Cayto “Morning” (Rictus Records)

Hallo big piano, hallo big fat fucking piano in a dead good kind of body part mix up that combines Bowie with Davies, but it does sound a bit like Brian Wilson is trying to get in there too because the harmony work is pretty damn fine. The gradual ascent from that fat piano to frenzied, guitar sploshed yell-out is very well managed indeed. Top pop, or is it rock? We don’t know, but there’s no doubt about the frantic flip, “Warning”, kicks arse, alright. www.cayto.com

[cayto]

new 2 track 7" from this glasgow gang released on rictus records, a weird but beautiful cover compliments the weird and wonderful sound within. pop, jazz, indie-rock, vaudeville, all thrown together. piano opens the first track 'morning' descending into a sublime choral and glockenspiel nursery rhyme nightmare before being subjected to a muse-like overload of guitars and emotion. scary, yet somehow enthralling. good stuff. the light and dark moodswings are unsettling at first, but by listen 3 this is special. flip the record for a far more straightforward punchy indie guitar rock out 'warning' with its distorted shouty vocals, and sharp guitars. a fine debut.

Record of the Day

The new Cayto single 'Morning' is featured today in the music industry news magazine Record of the Day.

Reviews of Morning

Reviews of the new single are starting to be published on various web sites. These will eventually be moved into the press section of the new site but for now they are here:

cayto - morning (released 2nd august)

This single has it all. It's enchanting, melodic, beautiful, and slightly sinister. It's nice to hear yet another decent band from Glasgow as well. Gorgeous, spiralling pianos melt over calming guitars and off-kilter vocals. The b-side "warning" is brilliantly juxtapositioned, showing Cayto have both talent and wide-ranging style. ****

Cayto – Morning (Rictus)

Takes a few spins to settle in but worth the effort. ‘Morning’ spins Subcircus-style anthemics around playful twinkling guitars and youthful, yet arch, piano and, eventually, a biting crescendo. ‘Warning’ on the flip is far more straightforward, hammering through in a 6x7 or Oceansize style. On both tunes, there’s a lot going on that requires that extra attention, as all good things do. Skif
